Larry Kent is Senior Pastor at Sycamore Church. Larry began his service at Sycamore Church in 2004 at which time he reflects “we only had one other fulltime program staff person and not a single custodian!” Since that time, Sycamore Church has added four full time positions of leadership and built a remarkable new site for ministry, dedicating the sanctuary/worship center/narthex/café and Student Ministry center in 2013.

Larry is quick to add, “More than any building is the desire by staff and leadership to build up people in the life of Christ. I am blessed each day to go to work with a terrific and talented group of colleagues who have a selfless dedication and irresistible commitment to serve Our Lord.”

For those who like the academic stuff, Larry is a graduate of Bowling Green State University and the Methodist Theological School in Ohio, having earned his doctorate of ministry degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1985. He maintains that the most important thing he has ever done is being married to Joyce for over 40 years.

Along with having served Sycamore for 13 years, Larry has served other congregations in Columbus and Iberia, Ohio, as well as in Lansing and Flint, Michigan. Larry has a lifelong commitment to Ohio State football, and adds, “It was tough to be a Buckeye in Michigan, but people finally left me alone after we won the 2002 National Championship.”

As Head of Staff, Larry oversees a talented staff, plays point for Sunday morning worship and preaching, resources the personnel, stewardship, worship and music, strategic planning and numerous other committees, and looks forward to a piece of pie for breakfast each morning.

Larry and Joyce love to travel, especially to Vermont, and their great joy is being with their grandchildren and families, including great-grandma, all who live in the area.
