Capital Campaign Committee

* CLICK HERE FOR CURRENT NEWS *

In 2008 the Session of SPC formed two committees to explore future ministry needs of the church (the Ministry Development Team) and how the physical needs of the church can facilitate our ministries and the growth that has been given to us (the Facilities Development Team.)

Each team has been working hard over the past few months and are in collaboration with each other as the development of ministries and our building needs move forward.

Several weeks ago the Session authorized the creation of an exploratory Capital Campaign Committee whose charge is to:

  • Assess the readiness of the congregation to possibly proceed with a capital campaign.

  • Assess and highlight the path(s) to follow for a capital campaign of varying sizes – modest to large.

  • Make a recommendation concerning the possible use of a fundraising firm.

  • Make a recommendation concerning a possible “mission” component to a capital campaign.

  • Create an initial structure that would allow a timely approach to the congregation regarding a capital campaign.

Session was clear that the formation of this committee DOES NOT MEAN that a capital campaign is imminent, rather that the church should be prepared in the event that the congregation believes that development of the physical property, in response to ministry and growth needs, is warranted.

The members of this committee are:

John Vogel, Chair Bob Stevens Irene Strong Mike Karbowski
Neil Gartner Verna Pfingstag    Paul Poe
Dr. Larry Kent, Pastor     Jack Taylor, Dir. of Operations

June 24, 2010

Generis has completed work on two key elements that could lead to a capital campaign in the fall of this year:

1)  a pre-campaign feasibility study which focused on interviews with a cross-section of SPC members, and;

2)  a Generosity Audit which focused on interviews with staff regarding the methods by which we communicate all aspects of stewardship to the congregation.

Dr. Walworth also met with the Stewardship Committee to talk about how a fall stewardship campaign might co-exist with a capital campaign.

Dr. Walworth's reports are due to the Session in mid-July.

June 1, 2010

The Capital Campaign Committee has recommended, and Session has approved, the Generis Group to begin a preliminary readiness assessment for a potential capital campaign.  Generis' president, Dr. Allen Walworth, will be leading this assessment through the month of June, reporting back to the Session at it's next meeting.

All of this is in response to the outstanding work of the Facilities Development Team and the Ministry Development Team who have been laboring for quite some time to provide solutions to the growth that God has been giving this church.

Keep your eye on this page for details as the summer progresses.

May 1, 2010

The Committee has completed it's primary charge from the Session and has filed its final report.  It's findings will be considered by Session at their May 10th meeting.  Watch this page for details!

April 18, 2010

The Committee has narrowed to two its choices of companies to lead a possible future capital campaign.  It has also completed talks with other churches about their experiences with each company and will be meeting later this week to review these conversations.

March 23, 2010

Interviews with three of the nation's leading church stewardship companies have been completed and the CCC is compiling the information gleaned from those meetings.  Further interviews will be held with two of the companies in early April as well as interviewing churches with whom these companies have worked.

March 12, 2010

The CCC has completed two of three interviews with representatives of R.S.I. and Generis, two of top fund-raising firms in the country.

The committee completes its first round of interviews on Wednesday, March 17th.

February 9, 2010

The Committee has scheduled exploratory interviews with three nationally-recognized fund-raising firms:  RSI, Cargill and Generis.  These meetings will take place in mid-March and are of a fact-finding nature meant to educate the committee on options for professional assistance should the church decide to proceed with a potential renovation and expansion.

The Committee stresses that this is fact-finding only...that no decision has been made by the church to proceed with a capital campaign nor any renovation and expansion as of this time.
