Welcome to Vacation Bible School 2010

June 21-25, 2010

9:30 AM - Noon

Dear Parents:

Thank you for enrolling your child in Sycamore Presbyterian Church’s 2010 Vacation Bible School: “Hero HeadQuarters: Where Kids Join Forces with God”. It is a privilege for us to have your child here.  The kids will be traveling to five different sites.   As they visit the five different sites they will discover unnamed heroes who were not super or powerful, yet their small acts were used by God to do wonderful things.

There are a couple of things I’d like to share with you before you come so when dropping and picking up your child each day, you’ll feel comfortable leaving them in our care.

DROPOFF PROCEDURE!  Children may be dropped off at 9:10-9:25AM in the morning and an adult will be on hand to help get your child to their appropriate colored sheet behind the manse.  If you arrive after the children have begun going into the sanctuary you will be asked to park and take your child into the sanctuary to their assigned color seating area.  For safety reasons, the drop off area will be coned off once we begin bringing the children inside the church and until all the children are inside.

·        You will enter the main entrance off of Mason-Montgomery and drive in front of the church.

·        At the North End of the building in the parking lot next to the Manse (house next to the church) there will be a coned off area for you to enter.

·        CHILDREN MUST EXIT FROM THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR!!!  It would be helpful for your child or you to verbally tell the adult their color.

·        Once your child exits the car and the cars in front of you move out, you will pull straight out of the coned area and head through the back parking lot.  Please proceed slowly and be careful of cars outside the cone area trying to pass through to park.

·        That exit will lead you to Montgomery Road.  YOU MUST TURN RIGHT ONTO MONTGOMERY ROAD… NO LEFT TURNS PLEASE. This is particularly important now that the construction is going on at the corner.  If you wait to turn left, you are delaying the rest of the cars trying to get their children to VBS for drop-off.  Please be extra considerate.

·        If you do not choose to use the drop off service, it is suggested that you park in the lot beyond the drop off zone by the storage garage.  Parking in front of the church means you and your child have to cross drop off traffic.  This becomes an unsafe situation for all. You’ll then walk your child to the arrival area and find the sheet that corresponds to their assigned color.

Your child has been assigned a color group. Each day, your child will report on the lawn (inside if it’s raining!) between 9:15 and 9:30 AM and sit on the sheet that matches the color group assigned. You’ll know the guides because they will be wearing color-coordinated T-shirts.  The guides will give your child a nametag. On the nametag will be your child’s name, the phone number you left us where you can be reached during VBS, and any known medical alerts/allergies. This is so we can act quickly in case of an emergency.  If you would prefer to not have your child’s phone number or medical alerts printed on the tag, please let us know.

When the children go inside at 9:30 AM, we’ll be collecting an offering at the door to go to this year’s mission project: Circle Tail which provides assistance dogs to people with mobility, hearing, neurologic or psychiatric disabilities.    (The oldest child in your family will be given a brochure about our mission).  Please encourage your child to bring an offering each day.

DISMISSAL PROCEDURE!   If you arrive before noon and wish to park in the far back parking lot beyond the storage barn, you will be able to exit Montgomery Road (again… right turn only please) after signing out your children.  The area in front of the drop off area will be coned off during dismissal for the safety of the kids.  If you are parked in one of our other lots, you will not be able to exit out the back gate.

·        EVERY CHILD MUST BE SIGNED OUT.  Children will be escorted back out to the colored sheet on the lawn behind the Manse where parents can sign out their child  and pick up their kids.  Anything that the kids will need to take home will be on the sheet, including papers, crafts that they did, etc.    For the safety system to work at its optimum, PLEASE do not take your child from the sanctuary.

·        Children need to be picked up at noon.

Children are provided a t-shirt and music CD free of charge.  There is currently a sign-up for food donations on the Children’s Ministries table in the connector of our church.  If you can provide food for VBS, please sign up.  Our Vacation Bible School is free and needs the support of generous contributions of food.

The last day, Friday, June 25th, there will be a final program for family and friends in the sanctuary at noon. On that day, we’ll ask that your child report to VBS at 9:00 AM instead of 9:30 AM to provide for a little extra practice. We’re requesting that children wear their t-shirt on that day.

On Sunday, June 27th, the children who participated in VBS are an integral part of our worship service.  More information will be available on this during the week of VBS.  However, I ask that you pencil us in on your calendar so that your child can participate.

In addition, please note that we do not have nursing care at the church.  If your child is brought to me because he/she is not feeling well (even if it’s a case of being “homesick”), you will be called to come get your child.

If you have any questions or concerns during the week, feel free to contact me. The VBS Planning Committee, teachers, and assistants have worked hard these past months to ensure a quality program for your child. We are grateful that you’ve entrusted us with your child. Thanks for making VBS a priority in your child’s summer.
