Current Events

Softball Update - Rain-soaked fields prevented the softball team from competing last week. Our next game is Monday, May 19 against Montgomery Assembly of God at 8:40 p.m. on Field # 15.

Transportation Needed - It has been brought to the attention of the Deacons that there is a need within our church for person(s) who occasionally require transportation to and from worship on Sunday morning. If this is an area where you would be willing to serve, please contact the church office.

Our next scheduled build date is Saturday, June 21.   Sign ups will begin June 7 and June 14 in the connector at the Habitat table.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Summer Movie Nights at Matthew 25: Ministries - Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization located in Blue Ash, OH is hosting a series of family-friendly FREE Friday Movie Nights this summer at their facility ( 11060 Kenwood Road ). Doors open at 6:00 p.m.   Movies will begin around 7:30 p.m.   It is a lawn chair setting; bring your chairs and blankets. Parking will be available in the front of Matthew 25’s building (donations are gratefully accepted to help with Matthew 25’s humanitarian work).  Concessions will be available.  Bring the entire family for a night of fun and entertainment.  The tentative schedule of dates and movie titles is:

v  June 27:  Bee Movie

2008 LAWN FETE PROCEEDS

Each year proceeds from Sycamore’s Lawn Fete are used to support those who are less fortunate. This year 50% of the proceeds will be distributed to the following outreach organizations:

Ø  Barnhill Foundation  Scholarship Program  - Serves to honor Kevin Barnhill’s memory by giving back to the local community  through annual college scholarships to Little Miami High School senior student athletes.

Ø  City Gospel Mission of Cincinnati - Having The Courage To Change provides structured transitional living to women who seek to recover from life controlling behaviors. Its holistic approach offers discipleship life skills, training, and individualized treatment in a local residential setting.

Ø  Comfort Foundation - Ministers to the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of orphans and underprivileged children in northern Russia .

Ø  Sycamore Presbyterian Student Ministry Mexico Mission Trip 2009 - Supports the mission work project which will contribute to the spiritual growth and development of our youth.

The remaining 50% of the proceeds will fund the restoration of the exterior of our historic chapel, including landscaping.

Treasures and Trinkets are meeting every Monday evening (except Memorial Day) in the manse at 5:30 p.m. to sort and organize the “stuff” for Lawn Fete.  All women are welcome to come and help. Dinner will be provided (usually pizza!!). Questions? Contact the church office.

Silent Auction Needs YOU!

The Silent Auction Team needs energetic volunteers to make this the best auction ever as part of the 101st Lawn Fete!  YOUR help is needed in all areas.  Do you have a creative streak?  We need you to help assemble theme baskets.  Volunteers are also needed to solicit businesses for donations, to assist with set up/tear down the week of Lawn Fete, and to help staff the information table.  Stop by the Lawn Fete table in the narthex to sign up. Please join us in helping make this a very successful event! For more info contact the church office.

 

Auction Items Each month until Lawn Fete the storage facility will be open to drop off your items. The building will be open the first Sunday of each month. The next date available is June 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. If you have items to drop off during the week, you can leave them on the storage facility porch and we will move them inside.  Call Doug Gausmann (683-8614 ) to notify him about large items left on the porch.

Items Not Accepted - Computer equipment, large appliances (there could be some exceptions; some TVs are ok, but no consoles or cabinet types), stereo equipment, cribs, baby seats (legal issue), most exercise equipment (newer and not so large items are acceptable), encyclopedias, piano and organs (too heavy), carpeting, doors/windows, tires, building supplies, mattresses and pillows or lawnmowers that don’t work and Christmas trees.

Triple "L" (Live Longer and Like It), Senior Adult Trip - The next Triple "L" group outing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4 and will include a trip to the Columbus' Statehouse, a tour highlighting it’s history, art, and architecture, a hearty meal served boarding-house style, and a stop at Yellow Spring for ice cream at Young's Jersey Dairy.  The cost is $45.00/person and there are only a few seats left. So, stop by the table in the connector and reserve your seat.  Your payment is your reservation.  For those who have signed up, but have not paid, please do so at our table in the connector.  This is going to be a lot of fun.  Don't wait! Children’s Corner

Appreciation Galore!!  Today is the day to say a special thanks to the over 100 volunteers who help over the school year to run our nursery, toddler room, and Sunday school classes.  Please take a moment to say thanks to someone you know who committed so much time to our children this past year.  

Today is the last day of regularly scheduled Sunday school classes.  This summer, Sunday school will be staffed at the 2nd hour only beginning June 29 and run for 8 weeks, ending on August 17 (Nursery and Toddler care will continue at both the 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. services).

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL - If you can help out over the summer by teaching in a team, we would love to get your help. 

Please note:  On those Sundays where classroom staffing positions cannot be filled with a teacher children will attend worship with their parents.

Vacation Bible School

Registration is currently underway.  Pick up your registration sheets on the Children’s Ministries’ table.

VBS CHILDCARE PROVIDERS NEEDED - Volunteers are needed to provide childcare in the nursery and Toddler Rooms during VBS week.  We can work around your schedule.  You can help any or all of the days or even part of a day. Student Ministries

THIS IS IT!  Today marks the end of Student Ministries’ weekly programming.  This is the last day for morning Sunday school as well as the evening youth programs.  BUT . . . we still have lots of plans for summer events.  So keep watching the bulletin and checking the Student Ministries’ table.  Have you been wondering if working with teens is for you?  Join us for some great summer fun and see if joining Student Ministries is for you.  We are always looking for enthusiastic people to help continue our ministry.

Haven’t bought your Kroger card yet?  We still have more!  Come to the Student Ministries’ table in the narthex for yours today.

Next week is our AWESOME end of the year picnic.  It will be held on Sunday, May 25 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.   Student Ministries will supply food to grill and side dishes.  All teens should bring either an appetizer or a dessert to share.  Parents, feel free to come hang out with your teen and play capture the flag, basketball, etc.

Calling all VBS guides – Haven’t signed up yet?  We still need more.  We will need a minimum of 30 guides for VBS this year (WOW)!  If you are at least 12 years old and have finished 7th grade, we need you!  VBS Cosmic City will be held at church from 9:30 - noon every day during the week of June 16 - 20.  Look for the sign up sheet at the Student Ministries’ table. Please make sure that we have an email address to contact you.  We will be making our t-shirts and doing mandatory training on June 11.  Hope to see everyone there.  For more information, contact the church office.

Men’s Breakfast – The first Sunday of each month the men of Sycamore gather together in Harper Hall at 7:30 a.m. to start off our worship day with some good food, great fellowship, and inspiring spiritual enrichment.  Our next time together will be June 1. There is no need to sign up.  Just come and enjoy!

Stewardship Corner

Our congregation continues to commit to growth and steadfast discipleship.  With this commitment however, comes the need for additional giving.  We should not be reluctant to continue giving because although we question our ability to provide the additional resources, God graciously enriches good givers:  “You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”  2 Corinthians 9:11
